This is exactly my point. Camels smell bad and are gross but we glorify them. And to be honest I understand that. When I go to the Middle East I expect to see camels. I want to ride a camel because they are different it's part of the exotic otherness. This in turn fuels the tourist industry so while it hurts the actual image of the region ( to be defined later) it helps the economy.
Alex I think spending a small amount of money and temporary discomfort is worth the experience because when else do you ride camels in the Sahara? Experience as much as possible cause you probably will only do this once. Plus the people who offer camel rides need to make a living like you said.
Camels smell bad and have foul tempers. Image and reality a long way apart in that respect, at least.
